Did you know 1:4

KwaNdebele

I know what you are thinking right now that i am obsessed with my Culture and my home, Yeah you are right i am obsessed. One of the reason i created the did you know category is because i realised that there are many thing we don't know that we actually think we know. This platform is to help and teach people about various things that are surrounding us that we ignore.

The South African schools do not teach us more in depth about our own history, we learn about other countries history. When i saw these facts about kwaNdebele i was amused because i thought i am a representative of kwaNdebele but i realise there are lot of things i did not know about the place. It is sad because I've lived there since forever, don't know whether i am ignorant or it is because we were never taught about these things. hope you will find them interesting as i'm and you will enjoy reading.

History of kwaNdebele

KwaNdebele was a bantu homeland/ territory formed by the apartheid government is South Africa, it was developed for the Ndebele people, it was established in 1979 when many Ndebele people were evicted from Bophuthatswana. It was re-integreted into South Africa in 1994 after the first democratic election which now forms part of Mpumalanga, it was granted self rule in April 1981. Before 1986 Siyabuswa was the capital city of kwaNdebele until KwaMhlanga was made a capital city. KwaNdebele showed interest in wanting independence in 1982, preparation were made but lack of economic affairs, internal arrests and land dispute prevented it from happening. KwaNdebele formed 1,970 km2 area in 1980.

Population

KwaNdebele had three districts in 1991, the census of 1991 showed that there were 404,245 people at kwaNdebele:

  • Mdutjana: 125,485

  • Mkobola: 212,771

  • Mbibana: 65,989

This mean that the population increased in Kwandebele by more than 200 thousand people in ten years because the census of 1980 showed the population of 156,380. Some people moved to places like Pretoria and Johannesburg after democracy but the population of KwaNdebele still increased in the census of 2011 it was 1,308,129

The current KwaNddebele

Since the new democratic government, KwaNdebele has grew into an amazing place and is still developing. The flag of KwaNdebele is no longer used as now it is part of South Africa. It is no longer for the Ndebele people only but people from different regions of South Africa and Zimbabwe reside there. There are amazing places to visit in KwaNdebele, see the

famous Ndebele colourful paintings and prints and also learn about the cultures and people of KwaNdebele. One other interesting fact is that we still have kings ruling the kwaNdebele land under the South African government. I for one I'm a from the capital city of kwaNdebele.
